I must say it is one of my favourite places on this planet. Not to say that I'm well travelled and qualified to say that, but it is undeniably beautiful here.
Everything about this place is picture-esque.
The red sand, the blue sky that seems to be so much bigger than in Toronto (probably due to the lack of skyscrapers and apartment buildings), the fields that are perfectly cropped and create a canvas of different colours as you travel down then road.
I can't seem to get enough of it!
It is amazing to watch the life people live here. So relaxed, so friendly.
Life is their friend and they welcome you right in to it.
It has been quite the journey - 18 hours in a minivan with my parents, sister and 84 year old grandmother - but we finally made it here!
I reconnected with my cousins who I haven't seen in five years and it is amazing how quickly you rekindle the relationships.
Take my cousin Luke for instance: Every time I come out to the Island we are inseparable... Attached at the hip! I'll admit, I was a little nervous to see him again... Worried that while by getting older and moving on in life we'd lose all that we had in common.
I am glad to say that I had nothing to worry about.
It's like we were never separated to begin with!
By hanging with him I get to experience the Island the way the Islanders do... I get to drive tractors and bail hay and feed the cows/chickens and get my hands dirty.
Now my cousins out here may refer to me as "the city girl", but little do they know how much I actually love farming! I love to get out in the fields and help out and do the hard work! (That may just be those six generations of PEI blood kicking in) So they let me tag along and teach me the ropes and rules of how it's all done.
Today we went to Delvay by the Sea - where they filmed Anne of Avonlea - and had tea and sticky date pudding. Boy do these Islanders know how to eat! Most of which isn't healthy - big diet of meat and potatoes - but it is delicious. Their sticky date pudding was featured in Gourmet Food Magazine!
Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy, so hopefully that means some solid QT, breakfast skype dates with Sammy and then hanging out with my cousins in the afternoon. (Can't farm if its raining, obviously!)
This weekend: Going to the "Cows" ice cream factory *drools*, heading into Charlottetown for some high tea with my Grandma's and time at the cottages on Mill River hanging out with the fam.
I am so happy to be out here. Every person I run in to makes me feel so loved and so welcome. I wish Toronto was friendly like this.
Things I'm looking forward to when I get home:
- My birthday...Im 21 on September 1st - where has time gone!
- School to start... I really do love getting back into routine
- Fall clothes - Fall fashion truly is the best fashion
- Getting to visit my Sammy once we get into our school grooves
